HUNTER'S RIDGE  [Formerly Bureau Valley Country Club]
PRINCETON, ILLINOIS

The Hunter's Ridge is a former private club located southeast of Princeton, Illinois in north-central Illinois. The golf course and country club is steeped in tradition and history dating back to 1909 as a rail stop for an Inter-urban rail line from Princeton to Bureau Junction.

David Gill / Steven Halberg Limited received a commission to work with a steering committee of members to evaluate the feasibility of improving the existing golf course and adding an additional nine holes to the historic layout.

The BVCC Golf Steering Committee and David Gill / Steven Halberg Limited presented an improvement and expansion plan to the membership in early July 1997. The plan included adding nine holes, reconstructing two greens, adding forward tees and bunkers to several existing holes to improve playability for all members, and automating irrigation on the existing course not already automatic.

The golf course master plan includes a routing scheme that plays 6,400 yards from the back tees, 5,100 yards from the forward tees that integrates the new holes with the historic existing holes. In addition to the golf course the project includes relocating and expanding the existing maintenance center and construction of a pond to provide additional irrigation water storage.

Construction is planned to proceed allowing the membership to continue to play golf with minimal interruption or inconvenience through the use of two temporary tees.

The membership of the Club voted overwhelmingly in mid-July 1997, 184 to 15 to proceed with the construction of the new nine holes.

Construction began in the fall of 1997. The golf course opened for limited play in September 1999, with full operation expected in the spring 2000.
