David Gill/Steven Halberg Limited
began work with the City of Delavan on the Delbrook Golf Course in May
1999. The assignment was to develop an additional 9-holes and a golf
practice facility for the existing 18-hole golf course.
Delbrook Golf Course was
originally constructed in the early 1900's as an eighteen hole public
golf course. The original designer was Richard Foulis, a former U.S. Open
Champion. The course has remained fairly intact since the early days,
with some green renovations in the early 1990's and some bunkers from the
original design being removed and sodded in.
Construction began on 13 new
holes and the practice facility in August of 1999, with a target opening
scheduled for the summer of 2001.
The new 27-hole layout will
feature with 3-returning 9-hole circuits and a golf learning center with
dual tees, each end of the range will feature practice facilities. The
west end of the range will be utilized during afternoon and evening hours
practicing with the sun to the players back, with the east end utilized
as a practice and warm up facility for early morning players.
In addition to the new 13-holes
the existing golf holes will be renovated with new expanded teeing areas,
additional fairway bunkers, new cart paths, and an entirely new automated
irrigation system with computer central control.
