DOWNERS GROVE GOLF CLUB
The Downers Grove Park District
owns and operates the Downers Grove Golf Club. The Downers Grove Golf
Club, formerly the Chicago Golf Club is the oldest nine hole golf course
West of the Allegheny Mountains. As part of the golf course's 100th
anniversary the Downers Grove Park District initiated the development of
additional golf facilities for park district residents. DAVID GILL &
STEVEN HALBERG LIMITED was retained to design a golf driving range as an
expansion of golf services and facilities at the Golf Club.
The project included:
- design of a golf learning
center and driving range with
practice putting greens, practice green-side bunkers,
practice fairway bunkers, and target greens;
- site planning and design for
the club house location;
- parking lot design and
grading;
- a preliminary market and
feasibility assessment;
- operating pro forma;
- equipment requirements
including a
capital replacement schedule;
- traffic pattern planning and
landscape design
for the club house area;
- wetland mitigation planning
and design; and,
- design and remodeling of three
holes to increase
length and improve playing conditions on the golf course.
The golf holes opened in
the spring of 1994 with the driving range opening in the late spring
1994.
