NICKOL KNOLL GOLF COURSE
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS

Jump to Larger View of No. 8 at Nickol Knoll Golf ClubAs a design team member David Gill/Steven Halberg Limited prepared the golf course master plan, completed design development, construction plans, and specifications, on this nine-hole par 3 golf course to be constructed on a former sanitary landfill site. Nearly 1.8 million cubic yards of soil material from a flood control project was "spoiled" on the sanitary landfill, leaving an unsightly mound of bare dirt. The Arlington Heights Park District in a cooperative agreement with the Village of Arlington Heights is developing a par 3 golf course with additional community recreational facilities including a ball field, bicycle path, and sledding hill.

Other design team members included a landscape architecture firm, engineering firm, and Certified Consultants Ltd as the irrigation and water management team member.

The Nickol Knoll Golf Course will be the second golf facility for the Arlington Heights Park District, the first, Arlington Lakes, a David Gill design opened in 1989.

The project broke ground in late fall of 1993 and opened in the summer of 1995.

Chicagoland Golf Magazine recognizes Nickol Knoll Golf Club as "maybe the best par-3 course in Chicago".

Illinois Chapter American Society of Landscape Architects awarded Nickol Knoll Golf Course and Park Project a Design Merit Award.

In the fall of 1997 the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association name Nickol Knoll Golf Course as the Outstanding Public Facility for 1997/98. This award is given to facilities for outstanding and/or unique achievements in parks and recreation facility development and design
