OAK GROVE GOLF COURSE

Go to The Monster: 617-Yard Par-5 No. 6Oak Grove Golf Course opened on July 6, 1998 in Harvard, Illinois, a far northwestern suburb of Chicago, Illinois. Full operation of the golf course and clubhouse began in the spring of 1999. The Oak Grove Golf Course was nominated to Golf Digest's Best New Courses for 1999.

The Oak Grove Golf Course is designed as a premier daily-fee golf operation, covering 223-acres of rolling terrain with a mixture of open fields, wetlands, meadows, woods and timber, and ponds.

Jump to Larger View of 16 Tee Designed with a serious golfer in mind, the golf course plays nearly 7,100 yards from the back tees and just slightly over 5,500 yards from the forward tees. This course challenges the serious player requiring both distance and accuracy while providing the recreational player with a quality golf facility with tees matching the players ability. The Aurora Beacon News called the Oak Grove Golf Course "..difficult, but manageable –provided of course you play the course at your ability level.."

Jump to Larger Tee shot at No. 8The golf course features bentgrass fairways, tees, and greens, and is integrated within over fifty acres of wetlands, ponds, and native prairie plantings. The course has been called an "Absolute 30-carat gem carved out of 223 acres of trees, wetlands and prairie grass"

Oak Grove Golf Course received Certified Audubon Signature Sanctuary status from Audubon International as an environmentally planned and sustainable environmental project. This certification was granted on May 2, 2001, Oak Grove Golf Course became one of only 25 Signature Golf Courses in the world.

Additional information on the program is available at Aububon International's website.

Jump to Larger View of The Second Shot to No. 11 The "Anaconda"  No. 11 aptly named as it snakes through wetlands and trees to a well protected cloverleaf shaped green. Many players claim this diabolical hole could be the death of them. As players make their way to 12 tee, shaking their head, a 4 is as easy as an "infamous" "other".

Since its opening in July 1998 The Oak Grove Golf Course has received numerous accolades including:

  • Rockford Register - "Best Golf Course I've ever played" "...Best golf course in the Rockford area

  • Chicago Sun-Times -"Probably best new course in state

  • Chicagoland Golf - Is it a must play? You betcha, and we can't wait to have at it again. Oak Grove should gain Halberg some much-deserved national attention"

  • Golf Chicago - "Halberg planned a golf course with a diversity of holes, wisely integrating what Mother Nature provided".

  • The Aurora Beacon News - "Chicagoland's newest 18-hole golf course is a commune with nature.. ..requires every club in the bag, plus more than a pittance of just plain good

  • "Once this course catches on, it will be one of the best Illinois has to offer.""

  • "My favorite course in all Chicagoland; and I play all of the best. Come, play, enjoy and you'll be back!"
